All coffees sold at Las Chivas are USDA certified organic. Organic coffee is grown using sustainable farming methods without unnatural herbicides, synthetic pesticides and artificial fertilizers to minimize pollution of air, soil and water. 'Organic' is a labeling term that denotes products produced under the authority of the Organic Foods Production Act. The principal guidelines for organic production are to use materials and practices that enhance the ecological balance of natural systems and that integrate the parts of the farming system into an ecological whole.
Fair trade coffee is one of many products sold as exports from developing countries to developed countries. It is part of an organized social movement and market-based international trade system which promotes the payment of a fair price as well as adherence to social and environmental standards in the production of, most notably, coffee, handicrafts, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, and fresh fruit. Fair trade coffees used to mean high prices for coffee: not any more! The Fair Trade coffee we offer costs no more than any other coffee we sell!
